The Microsoft Power BI Report widget allows users to display reports that have been created in the Microsoft Power BI software platform.
In order to make use of the Microsoft Power BI widget you will need to have a Microsoft BI account. more information can be found here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/products/power-bi
The Microsoft Power BI widget is primary designed to work in a Layout where it can be set to refresh the data contained within the report at a set interval
The Microsoft Power BI widget can also be added to a playlist together with other media, i.e Images and videos, similar to the weather widgets, however the BI widget report will refresh each time the Power BI widget is played within the playlist, as it moves from image/video to the ~BI widget. Therefore we recommend that the Microsoft BI widget is used in conjunction with a Layout.
In order to use the Microsoft Power BI widget in a layout the following steps should be followed
- Login to your digitalsignage.NET account by going to Your digitalsignage.NET account
- Navigate to the Layout section
-
From the drop down " Choose from the Dropdown" select "New Page"
4. The "Add page will show. Give the Page a name, choose it orientation, background and once you are ready, press "Save"
5. You now need to design the layout and how you wish to look, by firstly adding the Channel content window. The Channel content window is used to play any media in this space that you add to your playlist and assign to the relevant Channel.
6. In the example image below I have split the layout into two halves. The Channel window appears on the left with a space on the right where the Microsoft Power BI widget will be added. You may choose to show the Microsoft Power BI report full screen too.
7. To display the Microsoft Power BI report full screen, the Channel Content window can be hidden behind the Power Bi Widget. In the example below you will see the Channel Window has been moved to the top left corner of the canvas. Once the Power BI widget is added and sized to fit the canvas, the Channel Content window will be hidden. The Channel Content window is not required in the full screen example.
Next choose the Microsoft BI widget from the Widget side bar. Select and drag the Widget icon on to the layout canvas and double click the widget frame to open the "Add Widget Media"box.
8. Select the Power Bi widget
8. You will now be asked to sign into your Microsoft Account to allow authentication between the Power BI widget and your Microsoft BI account. This authentication is required to allow users to be able to view the reports that have been generated in their Microsoft BI account and select a report for use in the digital signage application.
9. Once you have signed into your Microsoft account you will be able to view the list of reports that you have created in Microsoft BI.
10. Set a Refresh interval. The Refresh Interval will set how ofter your data will refresh within the Widget. You must set this or your widget will not update. Refresh intervals can be set in seconds, minutes, hours and days, dependent on your requirements.
11. Choose "Add" to add the Power Bi widget to your canvas.
12. Once you have created the design , select the "Save" button to save your Layout.
